How long does it take to get used to it?

This question can not be answered in a general way, the duration for the training of hair extensions can vary depending on the type (bonding, tapes, microrings, clips, ...) and quantity (hair extensions or hair compression) of the extensions. For a compact hair extension much more hair is needed than for a hair thickening.

Roughly it can be said that with a professional it takes about 2 hours to work in bonding, about 45 minutes to work in tapes and about 10 minutes to attach clip-ins. However, keep in mind that the time for washing and blow-drying as well as possible dyeing and cutting is not included in this calculation.
